These are the best sugar cookies I have baked so far in terms of airiness, keeping shape and not spreading.I do not bake too many cookies for the simple reason my husband and I would gorge on it from start to finish.
The stores here sell drums of cookie cutters 50-100 shapes phew!! has anyone other than professional bakers really used all of them from the set I doubt. But it is really interesting to see all the shapes isn't it. Some are really pretty I must admit but it is really overwhelming for me to have such a large pack.I somehow feel the cookie looks stereotyped. So for all those who want to think out of the box here are a few ideas.
The other day I baked these impression sugar cookies and my daughter loved it and wanted me to bake a second batch for her friend today. She returned from their house all smiles saying the kids there have already finished half of it. So that tells me this recipe is a keeper.
look at the bottom of bottles for pretty patterns :) I know the most unexpected place right !! |
Ingredients - yields around 12-15 cookies
All purpose flour - 1 1/2 cup
Butter - 1 stick( 1/2 cup) at room temperatureSugar- 1/2 cup
Baking powder - 1/2 tsp
Egg - 1
Vanilla essence- 1/2 tsp
1.Mix sugar and butter beat well until creamy.
Mix egg and vanilla essence and whisk very lightly.
Sift all purpose flour and baking powder together.
2. Combine sugar mixture and egg mixture then add the flour mix until everything is well combined.Mix with hand and make the dough a round ball and wrap it in cling wrap and put it in a ziploc or container and put it in the fridge for 4 hrs- 8 hours minimum.
3.Roll the dough when the said time is over into 1/4 th inch thick disc in between two sheets of wax papers. Use any impression u like then cut the cookies with cookie cutter or bottle mouth/ can
4.On a cookie sheet put wax paper and put the cookies 2 inches apart. Put the cookie sheet with cookies into the freezer for atleast 15- 20 minutes. So it firms up.Do not thaw put it straight into the oven and do not open the oven in the middle of baking are the two important steps to get perfect baked cookies.
5..Preheat oven to 375 F and bake for 8-9 minutes only. After 3-4 minutes remove from wax paper.Let it cool on wire rack then store in airtight container.
So here is the household item I used. It is a drinking glass.Hope u liked it.
