Beetroot and oats pairs quite well and gives such a lovely taste I am sure you won't miss meat at all when you have the burger. I have gone with the Mexican flavors here with taco seasoning, coriander tomato salsa and buttery avocado so u wont look around for mustard or ketchup.
Plant based burgers need not be boring at all !
Ingredients for burger patty:
Beetroot - 1 large
Potato - 2 small
Ginger- 1 small piece chopped finely
Garlic - 3- chopped finely
Cilantro - finely chopped
Green chili - 1/2 finely chopped(jalapeno or serrano)
Use store bought Taco seasoning -1 to 1 1/2 tsp (add red chilli powder, salt and pepper to taste )
Or
Use homemade taco seasoning mix (recipe given below)
For binding and shallow frying
Oats -5 -7 tbsp + (Dry roast for 5 mts in sim until nutty aroma comes then powder it to almost fine)
Cooking oil-3- 4tsps
Method:
Steam the beetroot and potato together until cooked not mushy ( Do not immerse in water and boil)
Rough chop the beetroot.
Coarsely grind the beet with all the spices and seasoning mash the potato add some oats powdered and mix everything together until its no more sticky. Add more oats powdered so its not sticky
Make it into equal size portion balls.
Flatten each one and roll in oats powdered.
Shape it nicely as shown in pics by rolling between ur palms on a plate this ensures a neat flat surface.
Dust off excess powder and refrigerate for 1 hr before frying.
Or freeze in a tight box lined with parchment or butter paper in between each on.
Need not thaw simply heat few tsps of oil and shallow fry one side until light brown flip carefully add cook other side too.
